The Eric Krasno Band – Scenic – New York, NY

One of the better emails I got this past week was from the Soulive mailing list, which shared the most excellent news that guitarist Eric Krasno was getting together of his good friends to play at this little club called Scenic as “The Eric Krasno Band”. There was no way in my right mind I could pass up seeing one of my favorite guitarists twice in one week, so I hopped the Hudson and made my way to the club in Alphabet City.
Some notes of interest:
- The set started out hard and fast, with rockin’ funk beats by Nikki Glaspie of Sam Kinniger Band fame. Damn can that girl drum!
- Covers were on tap. They played some Zep and a killer version of “Higher Ground” that had another song mixed in the center of it.
- Sax man Ryan Zoidis and drummer Adam Dietch also joined in on the fun.
- Trumpet man Rashawn Ross was also in the house, but never hit the stage (so far as I know — see below).
Things didn’t kick off until 11 or so, but they played a two hour set with bassman E.D. being the only one who didn’t jet off stage at one point or another. The email said “two sets”, but if that second one happened it was after 1am and my departure from this rather cool club, respectively.
Enough jabber. Picture time!
