Bonnaroo ‘06 dates announced

December 20th, 2005

Those on the Bonnaroo mailing list will already know this, but they’ve announced dates for the 2006 edition: June 16th through the 18th. The only other detail given is that there is going to be 10,000 less tickets sold this time around, to try and bring the numbers back to 2003 sizes.

I have personally been debating wether I would attend this edition, feeling as though I’ve fallen into a bit of a rut with my summer plans the past few years, but less people to try and navigate around does pique my interest a bit. To be continued….

017: Reintroductions Are In Order

December 15th, 2005

Listen to the podcast (34.15 MB – 37:17)

A new record between episodes! After a very unexpected (and quite unexplainable) 67 day hiatus from the world of podcasting, The Outer Edges returns with “Reintroductions Are In Order”. Mostly good music interrupted by brief accounts of disbelief, road trip theories and talk of the great acts playing NYC for New Years. Dig in!

Galactic – 9:30 Club – Washington D.C.

November 29th, 2005

Galactic - November 18, 2005

Back before the Thanksgiving holiday Galactic made a swing through both the New York and D.C. areas in sucsessive weekends. Seeing as how I bombed out on catching them in my own backyard, I jumped at the chance to make the road trip down to Washington with some friends to see them play at the famed 9:30 Club.

Opening for the G-Men was the Stooges Music Group, a N’awlens brass group with some serious chops. They guested on some songs with Glactic, as did Ivan Neville. The setlist looked something like this (courtesy of the Galactic website):

SET ONE: Funkybird, Tiger Roll, Space Headz, Go Go, Moil, Hoss, Let a Woman be a Woman and a Man be a Man (w/ Ivan Neville), Just Kissed My Baby (w/ Ivan Neville), Chicken Pox, Snowball (w/ Stooges), Who Took The Happiness (w/ Stooges)

SET TWO: Forbidden Horn, Charlie Dozen (w/ Stooges), Groovy Lady, Cabbage Alley (w/ Ivan Neville), Baker’s Dozen (w/ Stooges), Tippi Toes, Metermaid –>Two Dots, Clockstopper

ENCORE: (Don’t Worry) If There’s a Hell Below, We’re All Gonna Go (w/ Ivan Neville)

More photos inside. Dig!

Jamiroquai – Nokia Theater – New York, NY

October 26th, 2005

Jamiroquai - October 24, 2005

This past Monday night I got introduced to the new Nokia Theater in Times Square as I ventured out to catch Jamiroquai in action. Great show, great music, great venue (even if it’s branded up the wazoo). Great pictures? I’ll let you all be the judge of that.

Wood Brothers – Satalla – New York, NY

October 11th, 2005

Wood Brothers - October 9, 2005

Semi-regular contributor Bready dropped off some pics from this past Sunday’s Wood Brothers show over at Satalla. For those of you who don’t know, the band features Chris Wood of MMW fame, though the music has a much more bluegrass feel to it.

016: Amnesia Recovery

October 8th, 2005

Listen to the podcast (14.59 MB – 50:58)

Did ya miss us? I mean, it’s been two whole weeks since you had your fill of the eclectic sound. Damn you must be jonsin’! Heavy on music and light on just about everything else this time around — which is what I’m told people are into these days.

Helmet – CBGB’s – New York, NY

October 7th, 2005

Helmet - September 28, 2005

One more show at CBGB’s under my belt before they head off and one more band I never thought I’d get to see live off my list. Hard rocking vets Helmet packed the dingey little bar and proceeded to lay out their A game for all to hear. Seeing as how I was late to discover their genius, this was a great thrill for your humble corespondant.

My only regret is that I showed up late and couldn’t fight to the front of the stage for some really choice shots. Still, some is better than none. Dig in!

The New Deal – Bowery Ballroom – New York, NY

October 7th, 2005

The New Deal - September 24, 2005

Back on Saturday, September 24th there was a kick ass show at the Bowery ballroom featuring live jm trance masters The New Deal.I forget who was opening that night (though I know I wasn’t fond of their stuff) and the band was late arriving becasue they got stuck in traffic, but they made up for all that in short order.

That was probably the most packed I’ve seen the Bowery since I’ve been going there — at least three years worth of shows as way of comparision. I’m just wondering how insane that first night’s performance must have been.

Enjoy the visuals.

015: Blender Bits

September 23rd, 2005

Listen to the podcast (17.35 MB – 37:50)

Wow, I think I overslept a bit on this one. At least there’s a new-ish intro for you all, along with your regular slice of music, sites and other banter and bother. A great show this time around, but I’m a struggel-ling to keep to a kind of schedule.

Brazilian Girls / Esthero – Irving Plaza – New York, NY

September 16th, 2005

Brazilian Girls - September 14, 2005

With CMJ is full swing, there are far too many good shows out there to avoid seeing something new. Such was the case for me Wednesday night at Irving Plaza. Opening act Esthero was decent enough, but the real deal was the Brazilian Girls, who’s music was as hot as the outfit of vocalist Sabina Sciubba.
